How fast is your internet connection?

We’ve had a thread like this on EF for years, only fair we get one here too!

How fast is your internet connection? (And how much do you pay?)

You can test via www.speedtest.net and to embed results into your post, simply click on share then copy the image URL and paste it on a separate line in your post.

This is via wifi to my Mac (ignore the upload speed, I purposely throttle this on the router as a security measure).

Here’s what I get to the router:

I’m currently paying £32 a month with Plusnet (a BT subsidiary).

750Mbps downoad 550Mbps upload according to Ookla, measured biweekly for a few years, deviation from the average is below .5%

Paying… 65PLN/month, which is ~15EUR

That’s a lot better value than here in the UK!

There are some providers now offering 1.6Gbps for £60 (around €69) but upload speeds are around 110Mbps.

Is there a reason you’re getting better upload speed?

Download speed was 23.4 (iphone, safari) or 55.7 (elderly PC, Edge). If I used a wired connection to the box on the wall it’d likely be higher.

The Chorus speedtest on the same iPhone / safari combination say the download speed is 450 Mbps, not 23.4. I trust all of theae results as far as I could throw them if tvey were embossed pn 500kg slabs of lead.

We have a symmetric connection via a fiber optic. The test was done while I was on my local wifi. It could be that my family was also doing stuff on the internet

      • This includes mobile internet backup. Without that, it would be 21.5 eur/month.
  • Speedtest
    • On my work laptop: currently 496.38 Mbps down / 230.50 Mbps up (wifi).
    • If I use my newer laptop, and move closer to the wifi access point, this can go up to 800 Mbps down / 520 Mbps up.
    • Whenever I measure, the number are faily similar to these.
