Curious whether you’re using wired or wireless to connect to your main working machine to the internet - if you have any specific reasons please share!
My broadband connection ended recently so I switched to 500Mbps for the same price… but my router only gives me 300Mbps wirelessly, hence wondering whether I should run an ethernet cable now that I have a desktop machine again (partly for the speed, partly for the health (slowly move away from wireless altogether)).
Yes, I would recommend running an Ethernet cable from your router to your desktop machine because it would help to reduce your EMF exposure. When using Wi-Fi, there’s a definite drop-off in performance. At this time, I’m using a Cat 7 Ethernet cable from my router to my laptop.
Got a gigabit Ethernet network connecting main PC, an M1 mini, and a few other boxes. Wi-Fi via a Mesh (for much improved reach) to laptops. Work laptop doesn’t have any Ethernet port, otherwise it too would be wired.
My work laptop is on Wifi, because it’s on my guest network, because I don’t want work’s device management crap able to access my private network, and I figure that 802.11X is overkill for a home network.
fwiw, I use Synology gear; I have a router and 3 access points in a wired mesh.
My personal laptop is usually wired, simply because my docking hub is wired.
I always prefer wired for health and speed. At work I use Ethernet with my MBA laptop ( 2 days a week) and at home (3 days a week) I currently have to use WiFi but I plan to pull Ethernet cables. Anyway there is an access point in the living room… This is not optimal for health but necessary for mobile devices.
