New Library Updates Section

Hi Everyone,

We’ve just set up a new Library Updates section which allows you to post dedicated threads for updates to your libraries… which we then automatically merge into the original library thread after one week.

This provides a number of benefits:

  • The thread is visible on the forum as a separate thread.
  • The thread is tweeted (with the prefix [Library Update]).
  • The thread (along with any replies) is merged back into the parent thread after a week which allows people coming on to the forum in future to easily browse through the thread to see all the updates in one place (rather than have to click on thread after thread after thread).
  • It allows people to mute this new section (so they’re not inundated with threads) but still lets them see the update (just one week later in the main thread).

How to post a Library Update thread

  • First, make sure you have a parent thread in the main Libraries section.
  • Then, when creating an update thread, simply ensure the FIRST link in the post is to that parent thread.

That’s it! :048:

The system will check:

  • That the first link is to a thread in the main libraries section.
  • That the username of the poster of both threads are the same.

If either of these fail it will merge the thread into the Catch All thread after a week. If you don’t want the thread merged into the main thread, simply omit the link to the main thread on thread creation, then edit it in afterwards (the system will only count what’s in the thread on thread creation - if you change your mind afterwards just let us know and we can manually merge the threads for you).

This is something that has been requested a fair few times over the years so we hope you like this addition to the forum :icon_biggrin:
